I have lived in New York City most of my life. I still discover new foods, new doorways, and new ways for the MTA and the New York Times to irritate me. Grove Court is where I.N. Phelps Stokes (The Iconography of Manhattan Island, 1498-1909) was wed. Which is to say: I also like Grove Court. The best parts of Grand Central are the catwalks. I miss Manhattan's smaller movie theaters—Theater 80 St. Marks, the 68th Street Playhouse, and that place off Madison (near the Paris), with the fake Tudor windows. Scandinavia House has a room for Moomin lovers. Landmark West and the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation are my heroes in a city of shiny developers. Wave Hill has a fine view of the Hudson. A long, long walk or bike ride is what I like. An electronic voting machine is what I don't like. Real butter on popcorn is essential.
